Services
Expert Routine Care
Routine podiatry (formerly known as chiropody) is the assessment and treatment of all skin and nail care of the feet. At Momentum we practice to the highest standards of infection control. This treatment can make the feet feel more comfortable. As part of this treatment we remove callus (hard skin), corns and can reduce thickened nails. As part of the treatment we will advise on how to improve overall footcare.
Sports Podiatry
A Sports Podiatrist specialised in the diagnosis and management of foot and lower limb disorders with a focus on sports and overuse injuries. A sports podiatrist will provide walking and running assessment to investigate lower limb function and biomechanics. There will be functional tests, strength tests and gait analysis. Treatment can involved exercise prescription, custom made orthoses, strength and conditioning, footwear.
Exercise Prescription
Exercise prescription is essential to ensure the successful rehabilitation of injured tissues and the prevention of future injuries. Exercise prescription is an essential part of successfully rehabilitating and preventing lower limb injuries.
Children’s Foot Examination
Since the bones in children’s feet are soft and pliable, abnormal pressure can easily cause deformities. A child’s feet grow rapidly during the first year, reaching almost half of their adult foot size. There are very clear developmental milestones of a growing foot, what to expect at each age. Our Podiatrists advise parents about the milestones of their child’s feet and appropriate footwear at each stage.
Parents bring in their child if they are experiencing unusual walking patterns, collapsing ‘flat foot’, hip or knee malalignment, verruca or ingrown toenails. Often only reassurance and exercises are given however sometimes specialised Paediatric Orthoses or other forms of treatment are indicated.
Podiatric Biomechanical Assessment
This is a comprehensive assessment of lower limb function and we use it to diagnose injuries in the foot and ankle. We start by taking a detailed medical history and injury history. The assessment includes gait analysis, joints testing, functional tests, strength tests and analysis of footwear.
Orthotic Therapy
We prescribe custom made foot orthoses that are unique to the anatomy of your foot and fit comfortably into your footwear. Orthoses are designed to enhance how your foot functions. Our custom made foot orthoses can help patients who suffer from foot, knee, hip and lower back pain.
Bracing Therapy
The Richie Brace is an Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFO). An AFO is a brace, usually made of plastic, that is worn on the lower leg and foot to support the ankle and hold the foot and ankle in the correct position. It is used to treat a wide variety of foot and ankle pathologies such as Drop Foot, Posterior Tibialis Tendon Dysfunction, Chronic Ankle Instability, Ankle and Subtalar Degenerative Joint Disease and many other ankle injuries.
The lightweight construction and low-profile design features of the Richie Brace allows better shoe fit, more freedom of movement and reduced pain from injury. Many of our patients can eventually recover and discontinue wearing their brace.
